Routes and Start Times Update

Wow wee! What super weather for training for the An Post Tour de Burren. Only a few weeks left now, so make the most of the perfect conditions!!

We have had to make a few adjustments to the routes due to the high numbers of entrants and also we want to ensure that you are cycling on the best surface and the quietest roads you can. The adjustments are not major but they do mean that the two bigger routes are reduced slightly. Don’t worry though, you may be glad at the end!

Here are the final distances:

Burnin’ Burren – 152km – (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1026087501)

Heart of the Burren – 104km – (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1026094377)

Burren Circuit – 62km (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1026096931)

As you may be aware, the Republic of Ireland are playing Belgium in the Euro 2016 finals on the same day at 2pm,  and a number of you are interested in ensuring that you will be able to see it. If this is you, here is some important information…

The start times for all routes are as follows:

Burnin’ Burren (152km) – 9.00am

Heart of the Burren (104km) – 10.00am

Burren Circuit – (62km) – 10.15am

As Ballyvaughan is a small rural village, it is important that we give those traveling enough time to get to the start line. If you really want to see the match and you are taking part in the Burnin’ Burren or the Heart of the Burren, these are the average speeds that you need to achieve to be back in time for Kick-Off……

Route Average Speed (excluding stops)
Burnin’ Burren – 152km 30kph
Heart of the Burren – 104km 27kph
Burren Circuit – 62km 17kph

However, if you are on the two bigger routes and if you really want to make it back by 2pm whilst enjoying the day, we suggest that you take the 60km route home from the food stop at Lisdoonvarna. This means that you will be cutting your spin short by approximately 33km.

Alternatively, there are many pubs and hotels along the route that will be showing the match that you could pop into. Finally, please note that we do not endorse cyclists leaving before the allotted start times as marshals’ and other safety measures may not be in place.
